Character im drawn to most: Mr. Poole

Throughtout reading Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, one can't help but to be drawn to numerous characters. Although, the character who overwhelms me with questions and curiousity more than any other is Mr. Poole. Mr. Hyde is portrayed as a monster in the story, and is extremely mysterious. The man is somehow closely related to Dr. Jekyll and is for some reason supposed to "fill Jekyll's shoes" after his death. Even more mysterious Dr. Jekyll leaves all of his possessions to a murderer, and is also thought to have covered for him by forging a letter in Hyde's name. One may think all of these unfathomable events would draw you to Jekyll or Hyde, but I can't help wonder Poole's position in the story. I figure he must be under one of two possibilities: 1. Poole is simply too oblvivious or respectful of Jekyll's privacy to get involved in his conflicts and/or crimes. 2. Mr. Poole is fully aware of everything and knows all of the secrets that Utterson tries so diligently to unlock. Perhaps he helps Dr. Jekyll and is the only one Jekyll vents and opens up to. If this is the case, i can't help but to visualize Poole similiar to Alfred Pennyworth, or Batman's loyal butler. Ofcourse, Jekyll is no heroic vigilante, but the dependability and  devotion of the two butlers are undeniable. In conclusion, there are many appealing and magnetic characters in the novella, but Mr. Poole is much more mysterious and unknown than any other.

  1. I liked how you mocked the story when you said "fill Jekyll's shoes" is was funny because its crazy how this story switches on and off like a light switch when it comes to being believable and non-believable . I like how you targeted a different approach to picking a character, you looked beyond the basic "scantron" like choices which are
    A.)Dr. Jekyll
    B.)Mr. Hyde
    C.)Mr. Utterson
I also applaud the connection you made about the two butlers , even though they aren't main points in the story they are components that lead to information the main characters dont even know about, in a way its kind of like Poole is playing a omniscient entity , because hes letting us in on some new knowledge, something like a secret book club haha . Definitely his placement in the book adds more excitement . nice work!
