Your honor, this innocent man is being accused of a murder he obviously had no motive for. The only one to witness the murder was a maid who clearly had reason to kill Mr. Carew. Mr. Hyde, being given all of Dr. Jekyll's plentyful wealth, would not risk it all to perform a senseless murder. Who are we to rely on one single person's "witnessing" of the murder. We have not made a fair trial yet, and have not even listened to Hyde's alibi. It is utterly ridiculous to accuse Hyde, and have that much faith in, and ignore, the red-herring of the case, simply because Mr. Hyde appears to be more capable of such a violent crime. The maid clearly deserves to be the one being trialed for this cruel murder.

Character im drawn to most: Mr. Poole
Throughtout reading Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, one can't help but to be drawn to numerous characters. Although, the character who overwhelms me with questions and curiousity more than any other is Mr. Poole. Mr. Hyde is portrayed as a monster in the story, and is extremely mysterious. The man is somehow closely related to Dr. Jekyll and is for some reason supposed to "fill Jekyll's shoes" after his death. Even more mysterious Dr. Jekyll leaves all of his possessions to a murderer, and is also thought to have covered for him by forging a letter in Hyde's name. One may think all of these unfathomable events would draw you to Jekyll or Hyde, but I can't help wonder Poole's position in the story. I figure he must be under one of two possibilities: 1. Poole is simply too oblvivious or respectful of Jekyll's privacy to get involved in his conflicts and/or crimes. 2. Mr. Poole is fully aware of everything and knows all of the secrets that Utterson tries so diligently to unlock. Perhaps he helps Dr. Jekyll and is the only one Jekyll vents and opens up to. If this is the case, i can't help but to visualize Poole similiar to Alfred Pennyworth, or Batman's loyal butler. Ofcourse, Jekyll is no heroic vigilante, but the dependability and devotion of the two butlers are undeniable. In conclusion, there are many appealing and magnetic characters in the novella, but Mr. Poole is much more mysterious and unknown than any other.
